Who we are

The AIDS Legal Network (ALN) is non-governmental human rights organisation based in Cape Town, South Africa.

The ALN is committed to the promotion, protection and realisation of fundamental rights and freedoms of people living with and affected by HIV and AIDS through capacity building, education and training, research, networking, campaign, lobbying and advocacy activities.

A main goal of the ALN is to address discriminatory practices and attitudes, to promote behavioural change and to facilitate a holistic human rights-based response to HIV and AIDS.

The primary focus of the AIDS Legal Network is to respond to legal and ethical challenges presented by HIV and AIDS realities.

Founded in November 1994, the ALN aims to:

  • Promote legal literacy and human rights education
  • Respond to violations of human rights
  • Promote behavioural change ensuring the dignity of all people living with and affected by HIV and AIDS
  • Promote law reform to advance the rights of people living with, and affected by HIV and AIDS
